Staff were nice and friendly, however we ordered "luxury" hot chocolate and were very disappointed with what we recieved. There was bits of chocolate floating in the milk that clearly hadn't been mixed properly resulting in it tasting just like plain warm milk.
Dropped into the Newport Restaurant for coffee and drinks and discovered a real gem of an establishment. Great bar, fabulous restaurant; stunning views across the river Tay between the rail bridge and the road bridge. Helpful, friendly staff. Lovely coffee served with home made Jaffa cakes. Great atmosphere. Sit in the bar, the restaurant or, weather permitting, out on the balcony overlooking the Tay. Definitely planning a future lunch or dinner here. Thoroughly recommend. UPDATE. WE RETURNED TO HAVE DINNER...TWICE: The restaurant is expensive, but the food is good. There is a creativity in each meal, however this is offset by rather small portions. It is troubling when one has had a three course dinner, spent a lot of money but is still hungry.....and I am not a big eater. Were it not for this issue, I would say the Newport is excellent.
We had the 6 course tasting menu and it was amazing! Lots of snacks between courses. Service was outstanding, very knowledgeable staff and food was delicious. Nice view across to Dundee. Well worth the money. Nice little added touch at the end because it was our anniversary. Would highly recommend.
Exquisite food.
Fabulous meal, excellent service, would recommend to all my family and friends.
Great place and food is fantastic. Jamie Scott is a master in the kitchen.
Unbelievable location, food and wine. A proper special occasion restaurant ???
Excellent food. Great views of the tay and good service.
We had the taster menu and it was superb, several vegetable courses, fish ones and in my case lamb, all of which were lovely. Then you've got petit fours and coffee (or whisky) to end on if you want
Absolutely stunning the food was amazing we had a lovely champagne lunch with my two sisters and one of their husbands would recommend that you try it ??
my husband and I are just moving in here and never leaving! We went for our wedding anniversary and had an amazing meal, nights stay and amazing tasting breakfast. Just a breath of fresh air from not getting away on our holiday this year. Would highly recommend.
A delicious meal.Wonderful service and perfect location.
Absolutely delicious food, and very good value (£40 champagne set menu). Friendly service and beautiful views- definitely be back soon!
Beautiful spot, gorgeous cooking, friendly staff. Would be back at my earliest opportunity
Had an absolutely fabulous afternoon, with the 5-course tasting menu. Everything delicious. The mini goats cheese and beetroot tartlets were sublime! And the orange sorbet, served with the chocolate sauce and buttermilk ice cream was a joy!!! Even though I'm not a dessert person, I couldn't resist a coffee, served with the most gorgeous petit fours. Not only were they flavoursome, they were little works of art!
Really liked it, food was tasty....only thing that removed the extra ? was the service from one person. All the other staff (Glaswegian guy and American girl) were great but the third person let the team down. Overall 4 out of 5
Had the 5 course tasting menu, it was delightful, staff were very attentive, definitely worth a return visit ?wine is delicious, but it ain't cheap.
Awsome place, great rooms, great staff best breakfast ever. Diamond of a place.
Beautiful views over the Tay. ?
Food amazing, restaurant lovely. Great experience we'll be back.
We had an overnight stay and a 7course tasting ,this was for my birthday treat and oh what a treat.Where do i start, the room was totally amazing and spotless,so full of character and very tastfully decorateded. The food was fantastic, from the treacle bread through to the amazing hand made chocolates. The staff were very attentive but over the top ,they were so helpful and a credit to the hotel, which sadly can sometimes be lacking.Ths establishment is truly a credit to the owners and staff, trully amazing.
Jamie and his team serve amazing imaginative food, always of the highest standard. One of my go to restaurants.
Absolutely incredible. The food, service and location I could not fault. The blood orange souffle is the best I have ever had! Definitely we will return!
A nice experience trying the Sunday Lunch menu between Christmas and New Year. The lunch menu is £39 per head, with a complimentary drink upon sitting at your table. Each course had 4 choices and we were sat upstairs in the restaurant. The stand out dishes were the starters and desserts for me. I opted for the Lobster Ravioli to start, which was an additional £5 supplement, Halibut for main and the chocolate and peanut butter dessert. Excellent, relaxed service, although we did arrive 10 minutes early for our table and were then asked to wait in the bar for 10 minutes until we could be seated. Which I thought was a little strange given how quiet the place was at 1pm. By 3pm every table was full though. Lovely views over the river tay and wellcworth the trip for that alone.
Best food ever
We enjoyed our evening at The Newport, Morven had a great birthday!
Had the tasting menu tonight. In between each course we had a snack. Faultless cooking & service from knowledgeable staff. Can't wait to come back.
Beautiful food and amazing views
Just outstanding. Lovely place. Really top food. Very friendly but efficient people. Informal but stylish.
Certainly an excellent restaurant and the staff were most attentive & pleasant. We had a tasting menu, with 10 courses, plus coffee and multiple speciality chocolates, all of which were carefully explained and described. Expensive but truly excellent.
6 course tasting menu, every hot course was cold, the lamb was one mouthful, staff were excellent, puddings good.
Food amazing staff were brilliant. French room was stunning. Can't wait to go back
I write having just returned from an invitation evening to dinner from two of our very dear friends, both well versed in the charms or otherwise of many local restaurants. We had forgotten to bring our £50 gift voucher which inexplicably would have expired early the following month, but on reporting this to one of the staff there, we were assured it could be dealt with at this very visit. A plus for the sensible chap who dealt with this. First impressions of The Newport, we agreed, amounted to: great view, super attention to guest comfort and concerns ... and slightly dull, quirky decor and furnishings. We, of course, knew our host had won a professional "Masterchef" title a few years back and the reputation of his restaurant would be surveyed and checked constantly. The two menus proferred consisted of a £55 per head 'tasting' one of trendy complexity and a more down to earth 'A la Carte' selection of 'Nibbles', 'Starters', 'Middles' & 'To Finish'-ers which we decided to favour for our own simple but well-honed and personal choices. We, all four, needed to don reading glasses to peruse the tiny, almost Lilliputian type-face provided ... but managed that and ordered food and wine to suit ourselves. It had been explained that the 'tasting' menu was only available at each table if all four of us could agree we must have it ... peculiar, we thought, declining ... and wondering if it was available at all on the several twosome tables in use ... for we might have two of us gone that way but for the unusually restrictive rule. However, the food, when it came, was all nicely cooked, could have been warmer, and sufficient to its task. The rib-eye entree at £65 (for two) proved adequate, portion-wise, the turbot and the pork platters each £28 were well received, if short of triple fried chips for one of our party. The three starters of curried cauliflower, treacle bread and olives were not special ... but neither were they overpriced and again, we agreed, were cheerily tasty enough. Malbec and Prosecco, poorly tumblered table water, coffee and petit fours, all served well, if not with the expected expert panache of other contenders in this game, completed our modest feast and we left replete ... though might not be in the biggest hurry to return. All in all, a nice evening at Newport's finest ... but there are better places around in this price bracket and this is a very competitive scene to be doing anything short of superb or at least first rate. Finally, the view of The Whole Tay Estuary from this restaurant is Powerfully Beautiful ... especially on a dark evening in October.
Great food!
Amazing food, prepared with local and fresh ingredients for a fair price!
Delicious food and great staff.
Gorgeous views, great food, friendly atmosphere and an elegant venue
Great service and staff
Unfortunatly only went for a drink but good atmosphere nd choice. .next time MEAL!!!!
Food was good - if at times a little pretentious (a 'heritage carrot' when all's said and done is .... a carrot!). On arrival we were invited to go into the bar for pre dinner drinks. The bar is basically a pub bar (sports TV etc) and not entirely consistent with a highly rated restaurant. The ambiance in the restaurant was spoiled by constant stream of people to/from the bar, to/from the toilets (oddly located close to the dining area). Had the noise and feel of a cafe. Does not compare favourably with The Peat Inn for example.
The food and service were first class. The waiting staff were knowledgeable- unfortunately, with the windows being open to let in the fresh air, the Newport wasp population decided to sample the food as well. Overall a great experience.
Very disappointed Looked on website before turning up for lunch today Wed 24th july Only to be told they have stopped lunch on Wed Should update website went out of our way to visit here very poor customer service
Amazing dining experience. The food was all locally sourced and clearly had a lot of thought put into it. The service team were also excellent, nothing was too much trouble. My wife and I will return.
Great view ... a bit too fine ...
Amazing food and service. Can highly recommend. Beautiful scenery to dine
Amazing food, great service, fantastic location. Love it.
